Onboarding
A good onboarding process is pivotal to the retention of students. At DITECH, we identify critical elements, share best practices, and develop solutions to create the best possible framework for successful onboarding.
In the autumn semester of 2022, the study start will move to the departments from day one, and the departments of CREATE, Electronic Systems, Computer Science, and PLAN will no longer be part of the common first year of study. In this context, DITECH has prepared a recommendation for an onboarding course, which in the future will extend over the entire first academic year of TECH's bachelor programs and which, to a greater extent, takes into account a diverse group of students.
The new and expanded study start aims to increase the retention of the new students - among other things by prioritizing study-motivation and well-being-promoting activities.
The goal of the onboarding process is to:
- Establish a professional community that contributes to a sense of belonging, self-efficacy, and perception of curriculum (inspired by Professor Vincent Tinto)
- Understand teamwork, group dynamics, and conflict management
- Build identity as a student
- Get to know yourself and collaborate with those who look like yourself and those who do not (e.g., team building, personal profiles, etc.)
- Use tools for good study habits/responsibility for own learning
In the spring of 2022 and onwards, DITECH will help and advise the institutes in implementing the onboarding process including help to implement a new online study start-up course aimed at new students, holding workshops for tutors, as well as advising VIP and TAP staff.
